MOTU has released the HD Express HDMI video interface for OS X 10.5 or higher Macs running Final Cut Pro and Windows 7/Vista PCs running Premiere Pro. The half-rack interface can connect to the computer via either a PCIe card (tower) or an ExpressCard (laptop). The HD Express HDMI supports input using an HDMI source such as an HD camera or other device — on many HD cameras, the HDMI connection bypasses compression, allowing for a direct stream of uncompressed HD digital video with 4:2:2 10-bit color depth and full 1920 x 1080 resolution. Output can also be on HDMI, which is compatible with most current HD plasma and LCD monitors. All eight channels of HDMI audio are supported via HDMI connection or individual RCA connectors, with a maximum of 12 audio channels in and 16 audio channels out. S-Video, composite video, and component video are also supported. A headphone jack with dedicated volume control rounds out the connections.
