New in stock at Sweetwater Sound: MOTU’s new interface of the month this month is the 24i. We just received our initial order. This interface rounds out the whole collection. Now you can get audio in and out of your computer in more different ways than you ever thought about. An interesting undocumented feature of the 24i is that it comes from the factory with the headphone pot controlling the headphone outs and the main outs always being active with no volume control. However, if you change an internal jumper you can make the headphone pot control both the headphone jack and the main outs. This is a handy way to control the level to your speakers. Additionally, although the unit is designed for balanced +4 inputs, you can use -10 line levels into it. There is already enough dynamic range/signal to noise to do it, plus they are going to update their software to let you choose between -10 and +4.
With a history going back over 30 years, Universal Audio has returned with the sons of the original founder. The company is debuting its authentic reproductions of the original 1176LN limiting and LA-2A leveling amplifiers. If you have a hankering for that good old sound, these reproductions are allegedly just like the real McCoy. The picture on their home page is worth 1000 words. Someone show me a real bench tech who wears a white shirt and tie.
In conjunction with Merging Technologies, Sonorus has released their AUDI/O Modular/8, which is a modular digital converter system. The rackmount system can hold various ADC and DAC modules, as well as AES/EBU I/O modules. ADAT and S/PDIF connectors are also included.
