Three words: Eight-Two-Eight. Yes, the Mark of the Unicorn 828 Firewire recording system has been received. This has been the most talked about new product so far this year, and for good reason. The 828 provides eight channels of balanced/unbalanced analog input and output using 24-bit converters with 105 dB dynamic range. Eight channels of 24-bit ADAT lightpipe and stereo S/PDIF I/O provide a grand total of 18 simultaneous inputs and outputs. The two mic inputs have phantom power, plus there is ADAT sync built in as well as foot pedal inputs for automating things like punch in and punch out. It’s ideal for those who want a simple solution who have a Firewire port available on a computer (Mac or PC). Many of you have orders with us already. You will be happy to know that as you read this yours may already be on its way to you. If you don’t have your order in yet you need to do it right now. Demand is still outpacing supply by a good amount.
Metric Halo has updated their excellent Spectra Foo analyzing and metering software to include support for the Digidesign RTAS architecture. It also now conforms to the K-System standard for mixing and mastering processes. The K-System aligns monitor calibrations with metering calibrations, making subjective loudness consistent through different program material and listening environments.
Our good friend (and customer) Mike Oster, more commonly known as F7 Sound and Vision has recently released his latest creation: Concept FX3. Like FX1 and FX2 before it, this CD ROM contains some of the most amazing special effects sounds you’ll hear. Each CD’s sounds are all 100% royalty free and available in AIFF and .WAV formats. Way to go Mike! Mike has a variety of other products available as well. Check out his website. There are even some cool pictures of his setup.
