This term is used to refer to a number of pickup systems used in guitars that do pitch-to-MIDI conversion, such as the Fishman TriplePlay Wireless MIDI pickup, the Roland GK Pickup, piezo 13-pin systems, and so on. Note that the Roland and piezo systems don’t actually do any onboard pitch-to-MIDI conversion themselves, but are part of a system that generally includes a separate converter box, often mounted on or in the guitar. Still, they are usually combined into the category of MIDI pickups.
