The Mapping Editor is where you place samples on the virtual keyboard. Using the Kontakt 2 Browser, you can grab a single sample or group of samples and drop them into the Mapping Editor. Once samples are in the Mapping Editor they become Zones. Now you can click on any zone and edit its boundaries: Top and bottom boundaries govern the velocity layer while left and right boundaries indicate which key (or keys) it will be heard on. As you highlight a single sample a key on the Kontakt keyboard lights up in yellow, indicating this is the root note. This is very much like the mapping features keyboard players have been using since the early days of sampling. For instance, if you drop a harpsichord sample on C3, you can stretch its boundaries up to C4 and down to C2 if you wish, or give it a smaller range. Most sampled instruments contain numerous samples so that none must stretch any farther than necessary to sound natural.
