Making Movie Music Magic

Have you ever, when you’re watching the latest Hollywood music bio-pic or musical, wondered where all the instruments and other musical paraphernalia come from? For such hits as That Thing You Do and the upcoming Clint Eastwood-directed biography of Frankie Valli and his band, Jersey Boys, the answer is History for Hire, a prop house that has been supplying musical instruments and other historically accurate items to the film industry since 1985. In many cases, their props, such as vintage microphones and instruments, are “practical” — meaning they are in working condition. One of the owners of the company even authored a book on the history of Vox amplifiers.
