“How do I get my new Mackie MDR24/96 setup to transfer files over Ethernet to my Mac?”
The procedure outlined below by the Sweetwater Technical Support staff works for both the MDR24/96 and HDR24/96.
Testing here at Sweetwater, we were successful using an MDR24/96 and a G4 Mac (OS 9) when using Nestcape Communicator 4.7. Internet Explorer did NOT work. We are still working on why. Here’s what we did to set the MDR and the G4 up:
1. Connect the two units with a Category 5 Crossover Ethernet cable.
2. On the Mac, make sure Apple Talk is on (There is a Control Panel for this or you can check it from the Chooser in the Apple Menu).
3. On the Mac open your TCP/IP control panel and set up a configuration as follows: (You can save and recall different TCP/IP configurations on the Mac, so before you do this be sure to save the configuration you currently use to connect to the Internet.)
Connect via: Ethernet
Configure: Manually
IP Address: 10.10.28.21 *(this is one digit higher than the MDR or HDR’s IP address)
Subnet mask: 255.255.0.0 *(same as MDR or HDR’s “Sub” setting in Setup FTP)
Router address: 10.10.10.10 *(same as MDR or HDR’s “Gate” setting in Setup FTP)
* To verify the MDR or HDR’s FTP setup, press the SYSTEM button, and choose FTP setup. This is where you will see info on IP addresses, etc.
4. In the MDR or HDR, press System, then set “FTP Turbo” to TURBO (instead of normal).
5. Then press RUN FTP for the Mackie to wait for communication from the Mac
6. Then close the TCP/IP control panel on the Mac and launch Netscape. *(If you have to set it up, just breeze through the options for mail servers, etc. None of this matters for the transfer of data to and from the Mackie.)
In the address field type: ftp://10.10.28.20 (this is the address of the Mackie)
At that point an index of the MDR or HDR hard drive contents should appear and you’re all set.
