Apple made the change from ADC (Apple Digital Connector) to DVI (Digital Visual Interface) when they upgraded their full line of Macs. The newer metal displays have the correct connectors, but the previous generation of ADC-equipped Cinema Displays will require Apple’s DVI to ADC Display Adapter. Why the switch? Apple simply dropped its proprietary connector in favor of an industry standard part. For most users, this is a good thing. In any case, the DVI to ADC display adapter is all you need to make everything work in harmony.
