As many of us have noticed, the demise of the vinyl record was announced somewhat prematurely! In fact, according to AnalogPlanet, vinyl’s health is surprisingly robust. The blog compiled production figures for vinyl pressing plants worldwide in 2013 and came up with approximately 34,000,000 records pressed worldwide. That number does include assumptions about two of the larger pressing plants that don’t disclose their production numbers, but even without those, the number safely can be said to approach 30,000,000 records. In related areas, AP also estimates sales of 1,000,000 turntables and 100,000 cartridges sold (not including OEM cartridges that come included with turntables).
