Line 6 GearBox Gold Bundle Review

I am so glad to see that Line 6 has released "their sound" into the plug-in world. Any tone under the sun can now be achieved without any hassle.

I am so glad to see that Line 6 has released “their sound” into the plug-in world. This plug-in is great for reamping guitar, bass, and vocals. Instead of going through the process of miking multiple amps in the studio to get that perfect guitar tone, you can run a plug-in and get virtually the same results. I used this plug-in with my Pro Tools setup in RTAS format. However, you can use Gearbox with any DAW on the market that supports: RTAS, VST, or AU (both PC and Mac).

The GearBox Gold Bundle comes with a audio interface called ToneDirect. It can be used as a DI input or it can be used as an audio interface. If you already have an audio interface, the ToneDirect can be used in conjunction with it. However one important note: whether you use the ToneDirect as your main interface or not, it has to be plugged into an available USB port. The plug-in will not work otherwise.

I have been a POD user since 1999 so I am quite familiar with the Line 6 sound. This plug-in works in standalone mode, or with any of the major DAWs. So if you are the tweaky type of guitarist, like me, that doesn’t like to commit to a certain tone while recording, this plug-in solves your dilemma without having to route out of your interface -> into an amp/amp modeler -> then back into your DAW just to reamp or re-tweak your tone. I used this on acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and bass with stellar sonic results. All the algorithms stay true to the Line 6 signature sound, and all the classic gear that they model. The GUI is very intuitive, user-friendly, and a sheer joy to work with. Any tone under the sun can now be achieved without any hassle.
