Kurzweil’s new SP88X adds an excellent weighted action keyboard to their popular SP88. This is the last piece of the puzzle to make it a dynamite controller for those who want a real piano feel. All of the other features remain the same.
BitHeadz has announced a new sound library for their Unity DS-1 sampler software. Tubes, Tines, and Transistors contains over 300 megabytes of sounds ranging from the classic sounds of the Hammond B3 to samples of vintage Oberheim, Moog, Sequential, and Arp synthesizers. The sample programs contain a wide range of different filter settings, modulation routings, and effects, offering many possible variations for each sampled instrument.
Coda has released the new Millennium edition of Finale for Windows. There are many enhancements in this new version, most of which are designed to make the program easier to get to know and use. If you’re a seasoned Finale veteran you will probably upgrade anyway, but you’ll be happy to know there are a bunch of new power features included as well. Details are on their Web site.
