Supplies are still somewhat limited, but we now appear to be receiving a steady supply of the Tascam DVD drives for the MX-2424 hard disk recorder. Tascam’s part number is DVDGF1050, but the drive is actually made by Hitachi. At this moment it is the only mechanism compatible with the Tascam MX-2424, though it also works in many other products.
The August WSOTM (Web Site of the Month) award goes to a humble looking site packed with information for the nerdiest nerds. That’s right, we’re talking about ATARI computer users. These days we’re all pretty smug with our G4 Macs and PIII PC’s, but there was a time when a lot of very serious music was made on a machine that most people thought was a toy. And there still is quite a lot of unusual stuff it can do that makes this site worth checking out. In fact, the way in which it handles MIDI data allows it to have more solid timing than all but the newest Mac and PC systems. Oh, as for the nerd comment, save your e-mail flames because your inSync editor still owns two of these beasts!
Korg has released version 2.0 software for their D16 multitrack hard disk recording system. The new OS supports backup of sessions to CDR/CDRW media, import and export of .wav files, MMC and MTC can be sent and received (which means you can now connect two together for 32 tracks), mixer parameters sent and received as MIDI messages, improved track edit functions and tempo mapping, and a ton of other stuff. You can download the upgrade at their site or call them and have a CD mailed to you. Sweetwater customers can call us and we’ll take care of everything.
