“Kilobits per second.” Kpbs is a measure of data transmission speed, often used for MP3s and other streaming file transfers.

Traditionally, based on binary math, one kilobit equals 1,024 bits. However, some standards groups have advocated defining “kilo” to represent 1,000, with “kibi” representing 1,024.

Kbps should not be confused with KBps (kilobytes per second), or one megabyte, equalling eight kilobits or 8,192 bits.
