A combination of kilo, binary, and byte. Kibibyte is abbreviated “KiB.” “Kibi” differs from “kilo” in that the former is a binary prefix indicating a quantity of 1,024 (2 to the 10th power), while the latter is 10 to the 3rd power, or 1,000. Currently, “kilo” is also popularly used to represent the binary quantity of 1,024, though the IEC and other standards bodies are trying to change this to reduce confusion in binary and decimal unit usages.
