Hollow-Glas

Sometimes written as “Hol-O-Glas.” Along with the term “Res-O-Glas,” this is a word coined by Valco for its line of fiberglas body guitars, which were sold under the National and Supro brand names. The bodies of these guitars were actually constructed using fiberglas-reinforced polyester, which Valco believed would prove to be more resilient and longer-lasting than wood-based instruments. The most recognizable of these guitars are the so-called “map-shaped” National electrics, so named because the body sort of looked like a map of the United States if you squinted and used your imagination.
