Performing rights organization ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) is celebrating 100 years this year, with a special website, a mini-movie entitled Why We Make Music, and a celebrity-laden song, “More than the Stars.” A timeline on the site takes you through the notable events over the organization’s past 100 years, as well as corresponding world and music history.
ASCAP represents more than half a million songwriters, composers, and music publishers, more than 9 million pieces of music, and processes more than 250 billion performances annually. In the last 6 years, more than $5 billion has been distributed to ASCAP members.
