The latest in extreme weather gear: the guitar gig bag! Recently an Oklahoma man plunged through an ice-covered pond into frigid waters. The air temperature was near freezing with the wind chill dropping the temp even further into the 20s. At such temperatures, death by hypothermia (core body temperature below 95 degrees) can occur in as little as 45 minutes.
The man was able to extricate himself from the water, strip off his wet clothes, and climb into his guitar case (we assume a gig bag) to keep as warm as possible. Ranchers checking on their herd found him and summoned an ambulance. He was taken to a hospital where he was treated and released.
The moral of the story? Purchasing a good gig bag may save your life!
