Q: How can I tell if my Gretsch has TV Jones pickups or stock Gretsch pickups? As far as I can see, they look identical!
A: They were meant to match the look of vintage Gretsch pickups, which is why you would have a tough time telling some (but not all) of the TV Jones pickups from authentic Gretsch pickups. According to the TV Jones website, the easiest way to tell the difference is to check the pole-piece spacing (the distance between the screws) on the bridge pickup and compare that to the neck pickup. The bridge pickup will have 0.406″ pole spacing as opposed to 0.380″ for the neck pickup pole spacing. The spacing difference is intended to centering the pole pieces correctly under the strings for best response. Gretsch bridge and neck pickups do not have this spacing difference.
