Gretsch 6120

Originally released by Gretsch in 1955 and developed with and endorsed by Chet Atkins, the “Chet Atkins Hollow Body” is officially called the Gretsch 6120, or 6120 Nashville. Numerous signature models and variants have been released over the years, but all share the same basics: a large, hollow body with f-holes, dual pickup configuration, and 3+3 headstock configuration. The body wood is usually maple, although that sometimes changes with the variant, but the neck is mahogany, the fingerboard is rosewood. The 6120 became a classic rockabilly guitar due to its percussive, resonant tone. In addition to Chet Atkins, this guitar has been a favorite of Eddie Cochran, Duane Eddy, and Brian Setzer, who has his own “Hot Rod” signature variant.
