One of the most common problems encountered when recording in a home project studio (or even some high-end facilities) is hum (usually caused by ground problems or when there are a lot of fluorescent lights) and rumble (most often cased by heating and air conditioning systems cycling on and off). When working in the Hum & Rumble screen, SoundSoap Pro’s Spectrogram frequency scale changes from the full 4Hz – 20kHz to 4Hz – 1kHz. This allows for greater display precision when analyzing (and removing) hum and rumble. Note that the Hum & Rumble tab selector is located on the far left. The other tabs include Click & Crackle, Broadband, and Noise Gate. You’ll see these at the bottom of the main SoundSoap Pro User Interface screen, which is what first appears when you initially launch the application. A separate hum meter is useful in locating the fundamental frequency, which is typically 50Hz or 60Hz, though hum caused by guitar pickups may be higher.
