Q: I love the Orange VT1000 Valve Tester, and have been using it to check all the tubes in my amps and my box of used tubes. The manual says I should insert a vacuum tube, then connect the power cable. But it doesn’t say anything about unplugging before removing the tube. Do I need to unplug before I remove the tube? Can I plug in a tube while the VT1000 is powered up?
A: According to Orange, it is fine to insert or remove vacuum tubes from the VT1000 while the unit is powered on. You do not have to unplug the VT1000 before removing tubes.
