Many of us here at Sweetwater use MOTU‘s Digital Performer in our own studios. The last upgrade to version 4.6 included a ton of new features. But now MOTU has announced that the latest version of their best-selling software will be Digital Performer 5, a major upgrade that includes six brand new virtual instrument plug-ins, track folders, a flexible Meter Bridge feature, new audio editing tools, a multitude of film scoring tools, new input monitoring modes, clip-based volume automation, and a whole lot more. This new version should be shipping in Q1 of 2006. Registered DP users will be offered an upgrade path.
The new, easy to use, CPU-efficient virtual instrument plug-ins are:
- BassLine – a 1-oscillator, 2-waveform (saw and square) monophonic analog bass synth.
- PolySynth – a polyphonic synth with a look and sound that may remind users of the classic Juno 106.
- Modulo – a subtractive synth with two oscillators plus noise, 58 available digital waveforms, oscillator phase, and more.
- Nanosynth – a sample playback module that allows users to drag and drop any sample (up to five seconds long) into its graphic sample display.
- Model 12 – a 12-part drum module with hundreds of supplied drum sounds and dozens of drum kits.
- Proton – a 2-operator frequency modulation (FM) synthesizer that delivers those bright, shimmering FM synth sounds.
