If you’re ever in the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, area, be sure to make a stop in nearby Edmond. There you’ll find The Music Group, a studio complex with three pro-quality rooms, full production facilities, and two of the most personable studio owners you’ll ever meet. L.G. Hamilton and Chris Freels were running their own independent operations when they decided to join forces in 2005. “We wanted to build a bigger facility than either of us could operate on our own,” says L.G. “Now we compete with big-city studios.” The studio’s services include tracking, mixing, mastering, and even full music productions. The Music Group’s Studio A is large enough to accommodate orchestral ensembles, and clients range from unsigned artists to established major-label acts. “We also do a lot of worship music projects,” points out L.G., adding that the facility produces full-instrumentation backing tracks for Christian music companies. L.G. also mentions that the Oklahoma City area is a surprisingly fertile musical area. “There are a lot of young, talented musicians working on building careers here,” he says. “It really is a great place to have a midsized studio.”
The Music Group’s studios boast an array of in-the-box and outboard processors, and an impressive collection of microphones, pianos, and keyboards. “Pro Tools|HD is a central part of our studio,” says L.G. He adds that Jim Swain, his Sweetwater Sales Engineer, “has been a real help” with Pro Tools and gear questions in general. “I trust Jim because I know that he really knows what he’s talking about,” L.G. says. “When clients call for gear recommendations, I always tell them to call Jim.”
