This is a reverb processor that uses convolution and impulse response files to virtually recreate the ambience of a physical space. Convolution reverbs can sound incredibly realistic when using impulse responses of actual physical spaces. They are used not only in recreating large spaces such as rooms and halls, but in emulating small boxes such as speaker cabinets for use with guitar amplifier modelers. Since convolution reverbs are relying on an instant impulse response “snapshot” many do not offer the array of additional features and parameters available on other types of reverbs, one example being modulation, since modulation relies on change over time. However, recent “hybrid” convolution reverb processors may offer a post-convolution stage modulation section to get around that limitation, as well as other controls and parameters to extend the flexibility of the processor.
