Since we’re on the subject of the Digi002 today we thought we’d fill you in on some of the most common Tech Support questions we’ve been getting, and their answers.
Q. Does it matter which Firewire port you use on the Digi002?
A. It does NOT matter which Firewire port you use on the Digi002. You can hook a Firewire hard drive up to the open port; however, Digi002 MUST be turned on to use that drive reliably.
Q. Where is my Reference Manual?
A. The full Reference Manual is in PDF format on the ProTools Install Disk.
Q. How do I register my plug-ins?
A. All bonus plug-ins have serial numbers EXCEPT Waves and IK Multimedia. For these you need to go online and register to receive a response code so you can fully authorize the plug-ins. They will function in “demo Mode” until then.
Q. Can I use my Digi002 with Digital Performer?
A. Currently the Digi002 and new “Mirror” Dual Processor Macs will NOT work with Digital Performer, Logic etc. with Direct I/O. The older Quicksilver Macs worked fine for this though.
Q. What are the system requirements for the Digi 002 and Macintosh computers?
A. Digidesign will only assure compatibility and provide support for hardware and software it has tested and approved. For a list of Digidesign-qualified computers, operating systems, and third-party devices, you can refer to the latest compatibility information on the Digidesign website or talk to you Sweetwater Sales Engineer.
In general what you need is a Digidesign-qualified Power Macintosh (G4 recommended), Mac OS 9.2.2, at least 256 MB RAM, a CD-ROM drive or equivalent, QuickTime 5.0.2 or later (included with Pro Tools LE), OMS 2.3.8 or later (included with Pro Tools LE), and a Color monitor with a minimum resolution of 1024 x 768.
You also need an approved hard drive, which generally means you need an ATA/IDE, FireWire or SCSI drive formatted HFS or HFS+ capable of 3 MB per second (or faster) transfers with a spin speed of 7,200 RPM or faster (5400 RPM drives will technically work, but my be limiting), and an average seek time of 10 milliseconds or less.
Overall requirements may be different, however, depending upon the type of work you expect to do. We highly recommend you speak to a Sweetwater Sales Engineer before you purchase a computer for any Digidesign system.
