Q: I don’t understand Martin’s “0” method of naming acoustic steel-string guitar models. What’s the difference between them all?

A: The “0” naming method is used by Martin to indicate the size of the guitar’s body.

12-fret models (6-string)

  • 0 – body length: 19-1/8″, body width: 13-1/2″
  • 00 – body length: 19-5/8″, body width: 14-1/8″
  • 000/OM – body length: 20-9/16″, body width: 15″
  • D – body length: 21″, body width: 15-5/8″

14-fret models (6- and 12-string)

  • 00 – body length: 18-7/8″, body width: 14-5/16″
  • 000/OM – body length: 19-3/8″, body width: 15″
  • 0000/M/J – body length: 20-1/8″, body width: 1″
  • D – body length: 20″, body width: 15-5/8″
