One synth sits in a class all its own — the amazing Korg OASYS Open Architecture Synthesis Studio. Despite the name, the OASYS isn’t merely a synth. In fact, Electronic Musician magazine called it “…the mother of all workstations.” Maybe you’ve heard about this amazing Korg innovation and wonder what all the excitement’s about. If so, you can take a virtual tour of the OASYS using the online Flash graphic user interface by clicking here (requires Flash Player 7 and a minimum 1024 x 768 screen resolution) or you can see streaming videos from the Winter NAMM Show 2005, including artist performances here. Links to videos will appear in the window to the right.
But didn’t we say the best got better? Korg has just announced the release of Operating System Version 1.2, which, in addition to new features and enhancements, also boasts the latest OASYS Expansion Instruments (EXi), the company’s fifth and sixth synth models. Thanks to the OASYS open architecture, the Korg Legacy Analog Collection adds the distinctive MS-20EX and the rich-sounding PolysixEX to your audio arsenal. Korg’s Component Modeling Technology (CMT) actually rebuilds the entire instrument within the digital domain, for a level of authenticity not possible in other systems. These two new synths can be used individually or blended together in any combination – even an analog synth with a plucked string or tonewheel organ! No wonder EM raved, “…you’ll probably spend months (if not years) discovering things that you never imagined it could do.” Keyboard magazine stated, “If you want to sound like you and no one else, I can think of no other instrument that makes it more possible than this one.” Hey, what more could we possibly add to that?
