An amplifier optimized for reproducing and amplifying electric bass signals. There are two primary types of bass amps: heads and combos. Typical features of bass amplifiers include:
- full-range drivers, such as one or more 10″ or 15″ speakers
- a preamp section (tube or solid state) with one or more EQ bands and gain control
- a power amp section (tube or solid state), which may optionally contain multiple power amps driven by a crossover
Optionally, a bass amplifier may feature a built-in compressor and/or limiter, one or more effects loops, two or more selectable channels allowing for independent tones, a high-frequency driver, onboard effects, a DI output, and more.
