The baritone saxophone or “bari sax” is one of the largest members of the saxophone family. Only the bass, contrabass, and subcontrabass saxophones are larger. The baritone saxophone is the lowest-pitched saxophone in common use, and the mouthpiece, reed, and ligature it requires are larger than those of the tenor, alto, and soprano saxophones. The baritone saxophone is commonly used in classical music (such as concert bands, chamber music, and solo repertoire), military bands, marching bands, and jazz (in big bands, jazz combos, etc.).
