This is the metal retainer that is wound onto the end of a guitar or bass string and is used to secure it to an anchor point, usually on the bridge, but sometimes passed all the way through the body, as on a Fender Telecaster. The opening in the retainer is the right size to fit over the axle pins on Bigsby vibrato units.
