Avid has announced a new way to connect HD interfaces to your computer and Pro Tools: HD Native Thunderbolt! The new HD Native Thunderbolt offers the same performance as the HD Native PCIe card, but is an external unit that connects to the computer via Thunderbolt. Your HD series interface(s) then connect to the HD Native Thunderbolt.
The big deal here is that you can now run a fully equipped Pro Tools HD Native system on a Thunderbolt-equipped Macbook Pro, Mac Mini, or an iMac. No longer do you need to have a PCIe slot-equipped computer to run HD Native. With a Macbook Pro, you can take your HD Native rig on the road for mobile recording using a laptop. It even includes a built-in headphone output for field monitoring.
