Avid has launched an entirely new family of control surfaces today, the S6. S6 is a brand-new system built on technology developed for the industry-leading ICON and System 5 families. Featuring a new modular design, S6 is scalable and customizable to any work environment and can be expanded over time. The S6 is designed to provide an enhanced user interface, intelligent studio control, superior ergonomics, deep DAW integration, and comprehensive metering and visual feedback using proven EUCON technology. For total peace of mind, every S6 control surface includes one year of Avid ExpertPlus support with Hardware Coverage, with 24/7 access, priority phone support, advance hardware replacement, free S6 software upgrades, and more.
An S6 system is based around a master module and an accompanying automation module. Two master modules are available, the M10 and the M40. Both feature a 12.1-inch TFT touchscreen eight rotary controllers, dedicated knobs and buttons for monitoring and global control functions, and much more. The M10 can address two EUCON-compatible workstations while the M40 can address up to eight EUCON-compatible workstations. (Compatible workstations include Pro Tools 11, Media Composer, Newscutter, Logic Pro, Sonar, Cubase, Nuendo, Pyramix, Audition, Sequoia, and more.)
The S6 system is then configured using the S6 Fader Module, S6 Knob Module, S6 Process Module, and S6 Display Module (which provides metering, parameter display, and even scrolling waveform display for each channel). The M10 can interface with up to nine Fader, Knob, and Process modules for mid-format console configurations, while the M40 can interface with up to 41 additional modules, including Display Modules, for mid- to large-format console configurations. Each S6 control surface is built in a frame that holds the modules and provides interfacing, power, and other connectivity. Xmon S6 provides digitally controlled analog monitoring capabilities.
Options include blank module panels, display VESA arm, producer’s desk, sliding computer keyboard tray, sliding script tray, speaker bridge mounts, leg assemblies, and more.
S6 M10 surfaces will be available in several configurations, while S6 M40 surfaces will be available pre-configured or can be custom-configured for a wide range of control surface possibilities.
