A chord consisting of two stacked major third intervals, resulting in a major triad with a augmented or sharped fifth. For example, a C augmented chord would contain the notes C (root), E (major third), G# (sharped or augmented fifth. Augmented chords are represented with either the abbreviation “aug” or a “+” in the chord name (Bb aug, Bb+).
