Yes, you read that right: Apple has just introduced the fastest, most powerful Mac ever, the new Macintosh Pro. As that old saying goes, “No brag, just fact.” This new Mac is “souped up” with 8-core processing power teamed with the company’s new OS X Leopard. Quad-core Intel Xeon “Harpertown” processors are on board, which run at speeds of up to 3.2GHz. There’s also a new system architecture that delivers up to twice the performance of its predecessor thanks to Intel’s new 45-nanometer microachitecture, which delivers blistering speed while still maintaining the current level of energy efficiency. Apple announced powerful new graphics capabilities and up to 4TB of internal storage, offering the ideal system for creative professionals, 3D digital content creators, and scientists. The new Mac Pro also offers a large amount of L2 cache – 12MB per processor, so frequently used data and instructions are kept close to the processor cores. We’ll pass along additional information as it becomes available, but the most exciting news may be that the standard 8-core configuration starts at just $2,799!
