Angling Near Field Monitors

Q: I read your Tech Tip yesterday about near field distances and spacing, but what about angling them? Should they be straight, pointed in, and if angled, how much?

A: There are two schools of thought on angling near field speakers. One says they should be angled in toward the listener’s head, so that the on-axis sound kind of crosses right in front of your face.

The second suggests angling the speakers so that they cross behind your head, with the direct line from the tweeters sort of shooting past your ears.

Your results may vary and personal preference should always take precedent over these suggestions, but these are good starting points; adjust to your taste.
