PreSonus’s latest innovation, the StudioLive RM32AI, harnesses the processing power and sound quality of their StudioLive consoles into a compact 4-rackspace package. With 32 XMAX Class A preamps, three main outputs, and 16 auxiliary outputs, the RM32AI’s analog I/O is what you’d usually see in a console that takes two or more people to carry. The 52 x 34 FireWire audio interface with up to 96kHz operation adds an additional 32 internal channels and 25 mix buses for routing DAW tracks into your mix and sets you up to record live shows without additional gear. And by using a heat sink instead of a cooling fan, the RM32AI gives you a 32-input studio interface that doesn’t add to your control room noise floor.
No matter where you use it, live or studio, PreSonus puts total control of your mix, effects, and signal routing at your fingertips with their brand new UC-Surface software. Using their Active Integration philosophy of combining software and hardware, PreSonus took the wireless control capabilities of the StudioLive consoles and expanded on the VSL-AI and Q-Mix iOS apps to create UC-Surface, an easy-to-use mixing application that works on Mac, PC, and iOS platforms — all at the same time. Combined with the onboard 32-bit floating point DSP, UC-Surface and the RM32AI are more than everything your old rack and console used to be, providing a mixing experience unlike any other. And since you’re using the software to control everything including preamp gain, this StudioLive is fully recallable.
Future growth is always an important consideration whether you’re installing a new system in a house of worship or building a portable PA for club dates with the band. With PreSonus planning UC-Surface updates for late 2014 and early 2015 and soon-to-ship networking cards with Dante and AVB protocols, the RM32AI is only going to get cooler. You’ll be able to use the RM32AI and current StudioLive consoles to expand your system in any number of ways to accomplish advanced mixing and routing easier than ever before.
