Historically speaking, Lexicon gear has been on the expensive side, but that’s to be expected considering the quality of the audio. The company’s original Pro Omega Studio was their most affordable audio interface systsem to date, and we honestly didn’t think they could do it again…but we were wrong. Joining the Omega is the new Lexicon Lambda Desktop Recording Studio, a bus-powered USB audio mixer and MIDI interface that comes bundled with Cubase LE and Pantheon VST Reverb plug-in. It includes two XLR mic inputs (designed by dbx) with TRS inserts and switchable +48V phantom power, two TRS balanced 1/4″ line inputs and outputs, a 1/8″ front-panel headphone jack, a front-panel instrument input and MIDI input and output.
The best part of the Lambda is the fact that it’s USB-powered – no AC required! Yet it’s still robust enough that it can stream four channels of 44.1 or 48kHz audio at either 16- or 24-bit resolution to Mac or PC computers. Users can record two tracks at once from up to four input sources, as well as record MIDI. The microphone and line inputs have individual level controls and peak meters, and are summed at the analog-to-digital bus. Mono/stereo monitoring is provided, as is zero-latency monitoring for delay-free overdubs. The Lambda Studio can be used with virtually any recording and sequencing software.
