A bass (usually the term is used in reference to a bass guitar although it can also be applied to an upright bass) that does not rely on electronic amplification to project or transmit its sound. An acoustic bass features a resonating chamber (its body) that amplifies the vibrations from the strings to provide sufficient volume for the sound to reach listeners.
