A component that senses motion. Often built into various devices to determine physical position. For example, a speaker might have an accelerometer built in to determine whether the speaker is standing upright or laying on its side. An iPad or iPhone can use their internal accelerometers to determine whether to display a photo vertically or horizontally, to detect motion during game play, etc.
