Waves has announced two hardware accelerators that can easily run multiples of the company’s most CPU-intensive plug-ins. The APA (Audio Processing Accelerators) units connect to DAW computers using Ethernet. There are two models: the APA32 is a single-rackspace unit, while the APA44-M is a half-rack. An APA32 can run six IR-1 Convolution Reverbs, nine Liner Phase EQs, or twelve C4 Multiband Compressors at 44.1kHz; the APA44-M has 30% more processing power. With Ethernet connectivity, APAs can be easily shared among multiple DAW workstations, and can be located remotely; up to eight APAs can be stacked for incredible processing power.
