Shepard Tone

The Shepard Tone, named after Roger Shepard, is a sound comprised of multiple sine waves, each an octave apart, with the base pitch either rising or falling. The movement of the base pitch creates the auditory illusion that the tone is constantly rising or falling in pitch, but without seeming to ever reach a higher or lower tone.
