24-bit

In digital data architecture, “24-bit” refers to the number of bits of the integers, memory addresses, and other data units that are used by the data in question. In the audio world, 24-bit architecture is significant because nearly all audio applications and processes operate at 24-bit resolution. Most audio interfaces in use today use 24-bit AD/DA converters, and most audio files are 24-bit, even though nearly all modern audio applications can support 32- or even 64-bit floating point processing.
