Hands On: MONO Cases Vertigo

Hands On: MONO Cases Vertigo

I’m sort of a fanatic about protecting my guitars. I’ve got a bunch of different cases, some of which will withstand a nuclear event, submersion in the deepest ocean, or even a launch into outer space. But these sorts of cases are overkill for many gigs. Often I prefer a gig bag, but I want one that can give me hardshell-case protection while still being lightweight.

That’s where the MONO Cases Vertigo comes in. The Vertigo is a solid, super-durable cross between a case and a bag. Lightweight but rugged, it has a large pocket for cables, straps, an iPad, etc., and smaller pockets for picks, strings, and so on. But the “extra” is that it stands upright by itself, making it a breeze to load in your guitar. No fighting a floppy bag! The bottom of the case has a hardcore boot for extra stability and protection. Inside the case, there is a unique sculpted block that encloses the guitar neck to prevent a broken headstock in the event of a fall.

I became interested in the Vertigo because there is a new version that is fitted to ES-335-style semi-hollowbody guitars — it’s the first gig bag that I’ve felt comfortable entrusting with my 335. After using it on gigs, I like it so much, I want more Vertigos for my other guitars!
