Let’s head to beautiful Cape Cod, in Hyannis, Massachusetts, where Shane Frisby operates the Brick HitHouse studio. The idyllic setting is not lost on him. “The area is beautiful, scenic, and very historic. Beaches are everywhere, and the whole area is just amazing to live and work in. I’m very lucky,” he says. “I’ve been a Cape Codder for life, so the choice to remain around here was very simple.”
Formerly a touring musician, Shane retired from the road and opened the Brick HitHouse in 2008. The full-service facility includes a treated live room, a vocal booth, and two recording suites. All are put to good use, mostly with bands and artists. “I do some commercial and voice-over work, but I would say music production is the main priority here. I’m mostly known for my work in the metal and hardcore genres, but I work within every genre out there.” Shane also took great pains to make the pro-caliber facility as artist friendly as possible. “The studio is set up for maximum comfort,” he points out. “It’s like an enormous man cave.”
The Brick HitHouse’s nerve center is based around a Cubase DAW, and Shane swears by his RME Fireface 800 interface and API 3124+ and Focusrite 828 preamps. He also favors the Shure SM7B microphone for vocals. “I buy all my gear from Sweetwater,” he says, adding that his Sales Engineer, Austin Moss, “has been so amazing. It’s crazy that he knows everything about any piece of gear or program that I ask him about. Sweetwater has been amazing.”
The Brick HitHouse is doing brisk business now, and the future looks even brighter for Shane. “This year has been hands down my best year,” he says, “and for what has already been booked for 2012, next year is going to be phenomenal! I’m so lucky to do what I love for a living.”
