The new Focusrite Saffire is a whole new breed of FireWire interface with onboard DSP and true 24-bit/192kHz processing. First shown at the NAMM Show, Saffire is now real and it fuses state-of-the-art hardware with today’s ultra-sophisticated software. Maybe best of all, you get that classic Focusrite sound at a surprisingly affordable price that also includes Cubase DAW software.
Saffire offers plenty of I/O options, with four inputs (two digital) and 10 outputs (two digital). Two Focusrite precision preamps provide the kind of high-quality, analog audio warmth and clarity you’ve come to expect, along with intelligent front-end design, cutting-edge compression, EQ, amp modeling, and foldback reverb software. There are two preset modes of operation, allowing the hardware to function either as a comprehensive tracking tool, with custom foldback audio mixes for artists, or as a standard sound card, with eight analog outs.
All of the plug-ins run off Saffire’s onboard hardware DSP, so your computer’s processor is never overburdened like the HAL 9000 in 2001: A Space Odyssey. Because let’s face it, the last thing you need is a whacked out, cheesed-off computer that refuses to let you back into the studio because you can’t be trusted to do the mix – hey, it happens! The entire plug-in suite also comes in AU/VST format for use within your sequencer or recording software.
