According to Microsoft, work is complete on its long-delayed Windows Vista operating system and said that the software would likely be available by the end of January 2007. If that’s indeed the case, then the company is going to meet (just barely) its goal of getting the new OS in customers’ hands in the first month of the year. The Windows Vista code was turned over to manufacturing this past Wednesday, a major step on the road to getting the new OS installed on all new Windows-based PCs, as well as into stores where users can buy it. Microsoft had previously set a November release date and has reiterated that corporations that buy Windows licenses in bulk will get the new system this month. This release is the first major upgrade in over five years to the operating system that powers most of the world’s personal computers. According to Microsoft, Vista will have improved graphics, as well as better tools for finding documents, photos and other items on PCs, plus a new Internet browser.
