With an improved user interface, an impulse response browser, 30 new automation preset memories, and a wider set of automatable parameters than ever before, this Altiverb upgrade is a major one. But perhaps the biggest news is that this version not only runs on the newest Intel-based Macs, but also supports Pro Tools TDM hardware on a Mac running OS X, which means that for the first time Audio Ease’s library of impulse responses becomes available to the Digidesign HD|Accel chips. It is possible to generate over two seconds of stereo reverb from a single chip, and by tying chips together, Altiverb 6 can create up to 25 seconds of world-class reverb. Altiverb 6 Regular is the stereo, fully automatable VST, RTAS, MAS, and Audio Unit reverb supporting up to 96kHz sample rate, while Altiverb 6 XL adds Pro Tools TDM support, surround output up to 5.1, and sample rates up to an astonishing 384kHz.The upgrade from Altiverb version 5 to version 6 regular is free, while the upgrade to XL costs $100 to $129 for existing Altiverb 5 HTDM users, depending on date of purchase. It is also available now as RTAS and VST plug-ins on Windows XP systems.
