If you’re one of the many thousands of musicians now using Digidesign’s Pro Tools HD system, but wish you could run it on Apple’s latest OS X 10.5 operating system, here’s the high point of your day: Digidesign has just announced the beginning of a phased rollout of Pro Tools HD version 7.4.1. This version is compatible with Leopard running on Apple’s newest 8-core Mac Pro computers with Intel “Harpertown” processors and OS X 10.5.1 and higher. Digidesign recommends that users read all release notes before updating their systems.
Digidesign has also announced that Leopard compatibility is just around the corner for Pro Tools LE, M-Powered and other Pro Tools HD systems, as well as older Intel-based Mac Pro computers, but urge users to wait until an official announcement is made before upgrading to OS X 10.5. Also, users need to be aware that some currently shipping plug-ins and virtual instruments are not yet compatible with Pro Tools 7.4.1 running on OS X 10.5.1, and some require that you update the plug-ins if an upgrade is currently available. Before upgrading to Pro Tools 7.4.1, be sure to review the plug-in compatibility and update information on Digidesign’s web site.
Note: Pro Tools HD 7.4.1 software works with Mac OS X 10.5.1 only, and is NOT compatible with Apple’s new Mac OS X 10.5.2 release. Be sure both your computer and its OS are completely compatible with your Pro Tools rig before installing the update.
