In other technology news, Seagate has shown the first SATA3 hard drive, which is said to be able to achieve 6Gbits/second data throughput. (SATA2 drives run around 2.5Gbits/second). SATA3 drives will be backward compatible with earlier SATA connections and drives, and will require updated chipsets for best performance. At this point, according to the company, the speed limitation is the mechanical drive itself; solid-state drives promise to ease or erase this limitation allowing much faster performance.
