Focusrite has announced the latest member of the Saffire family, the Saffire PRO 24 DSP, which features patented VRM monitoring technology. VRM, or virtual reference monitoring, can simulate more than 100 different monitoring situations, with 15 commonly used pro studio monitors and hi-fi speakers in various acoustic environments and listening positions. This allows the user to mix using headphones, while achieving results similar to mixing on “real” monitors.
The FireWire interface has 16 inputs (including two Focusrite mic preamps) and eight outputs, the DSP-powered Focusrite Studio Suite, (comprising compression, gate, EQ, and reverb plug-ins) for latency-free tracking solutions; the VST/AU plug-ins can also be used during mixdown. The Xcite+ bundle is also included, featuring Ableton Live 7 Lite, Novation Bass Station, and over 1GB of samples and loops.
